VendorRenew

Contract cancellation deadline calculator

Find the last day you can send notice before a contract auto-renews, and put it in your calendar before it slips by.

The date the current term ends and the contract auto-renews.

How to read your notice deadline

Most auto-renewing contracts do not renew on the day that matters. They renew on the term end date, but the right to stop that renewal usually closes earlier, because you have to give notice a set number of days in advance. This calculator subtracts the notice period from the term end date to give you that last day.

Notice periods vary by vendor and contract. Common ones are:

Treat these as patterns, not rules. Your contract is what counts. Look for the words "renewal", "term", "non-renewal" or "notice of termination", and check how notice must be given (written, email, certified mail) and whether it must be received or only sent by the deadline. When the notice period is in months, we count back whole calendar months and use the last day of the month if needed (for example, one month before March 31 is February 28).

Practical tip: aim to decide at least two weeks before the deadline, send notice in writing, and keep a copy or confirmation. This tool is a date calculator, not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cancellation notice deadline?

It is the last day you can tell a vendor you do not want to renew. Miss it and the contract may renew automatically for another full term, often a year.

What if I already missed the deadline?

Check the contract for any grace period, then contact the vendor and ask politely. Some will agree to a shorter term or a one-time exception. Set a reminder for the next cycle so it does not happen again.

Does the notice period count from the end date or from today?

It counts backwards from the date the term ends. Notice given exactly on the cancel-by date is usually in time, but confirm your contract's wording.

Are weekends and holidays included?

This calculator counts calendar days. If the deadline falls on a weekend, send notice earlier in the week to be safe.

How do I keep track of many contracts?

A shared spreadsheet works for a few. When you have more vendors, a tracker that calculates each deadline and emails you ahead of time saves real money. That is what VendorRenew does.
